Girl apologizes for beating, accusing prom date of rape
By Eric R. Drudis Medill News Service
A 15-year-old sophomore at Niles North High School in Skokie pleaded
guilty Tuesday to beating her 18-year-old prom date because he wouldn't
kiss her.
Prosecutors said the Skokie girl pummeled her ex-boyfriend at a
post-prom party at his house last May.
At first, the girl claimed her ex-boyfriend tried to rape her. But
she took back the story after police found no evidence of sexual assault.
She later admitted she made up the rape allegation because the boy
rejected her drunken advances.
"I'm sorry I did all of this," the girl said to her ex-boyfriend
in juvenile court Tuesday, after Cook County Circuit Judge Rodney
Hughes Brooks told her to apologize. "I need to learn how to control
my temper."
The girl's attorneys said they would ask for a light sentence because
the girl, who is 5-foot-3 and weighs less than 100 pounds, could not
have seriously injured her ex-boyfriend.
"He wasn't really bruised at all," attorney Carolyn Pertha said.
"He's much bigger than she is, and he could have stopped her whenever
he wanted."
But the boy said his ex-girlfriend gave him two black eyes.
"I was in an abusive relationship," said the boy, who is 5-foot-11
and weighs 150 pounds. "All she's tried to do since we broke up is
get revenge on me by saying I raped her. It's unfair."
The boy, who attends a community college, said he did not fight
back or defend himself because "I was taught never to hit a girl."
The girl is scheduled to be sentenced next week.
